Sensor is the first link to realize automatic detection and automatic control. Sensors will sense the information, according to certain laws to transform into electrical signals or other required forms of information output to meet the information transmission, processing, storage, display, recording and control requirements. In this involves a lot of professional terminology and terminology, today we want to understand the sensitivity and resolution of the sensor.
Sensor sensitivity
Sensitivity refers to the sensor in the steady state operation of the output changes △ y to the input changes △ x ratio. It is the slope of the output-input characteristic curve. If there is a linear relationship between the output and input of the sensor, the sensitivity S is a constant. Otherwise, it varies with the input. The magnitude of the sensitivity is the ratio of the magnitudes of the output and input quantities. For example, a displacement sensor, in the displacement change of 1mm, the output voltage change of 200mV, then its sensitivity should be expressed as 200mV/mm. when the sensor output, input quantities of the same magnitude, the sensitivity can be interpreted as the magnification. Improve the sensitivity, you can get a higher measurement accuracy. However, the higher the sensitivity, the narrower the measurement range, the stability tends to be worse.
Sensor resolution
Resolution is the ability of the sensor to sense the smallest change in the measurement. That is, if the input changes slowly from a certain non-zero value. When the input change value does not exceed a certain value, the sensor’s output will not change, that is, the sensor is not distinguishable from the change of the input. Only when the change in input exceeds the resolution, its output will change. Usually sensors in the full-scale range of the resolution of each point is not the same, so commonly used in the full range of input quantities that can produce step changes in the output of the largest change as a measure of the resolution index. If the above index is expressed as a percentage of the full scale range, it is called resolution. Resolution has a negative correlation with the stability of the sensor.
