For transmitters, especially those using sophisticated large-scale integrated circuit technology, they have a certain level of lightning protection capability. However, the situation of lightning strikes is very complex, and professional equipment has a very complex circuit system. For weak point devices such as transmitters, the housing space of the transmitter is so large that complex protective measures cannot be used. So we need to consider the issue of lightning protection from the perspective of the entire power supply and wiring system.
It is relatively easy to achieve centralized layout of transmitters inside buildings. Buildings generally use lightning rods and lightning strips. Ensure proper grounding of the shielding wire and layered installation of surge protectors for the transmitter. To ensure that the overvoltage at the inlet of each transmitter is controlled below the voltage it can withstand.
For transmitters scattered outdoors and not high in height, the actual situation on site should be considered:
1. Strengthen the casing protection of the transmitter itself. Adopting a closed metal shell, and the shell must be reliably grounded, can play a comprehensive role in preventing rainwater and lightning strikes.
2. Install surge protectors at the inlet of each transmitter. The installation should meet relevant regulations and requirements, and the connection and grounding wires should not be too long. The residual voltage formed by the surge protector and the connection and grounding wires should match the withstand voltage of the transmitter.
3. Check the grounding of nearby lightning rods and also distance the grounding point of the lightning rod from the transmitter and cable grounding points.
4. If conditions permit, bury the cable of the transmitter in the ground for at least 10 meters or more, the longer the better, which is beneficial for reducing and attenuating lightning intrusion waves conducted along the cable.
