In the process of purchasing a transmitter, there is a technical parameter that will definitely be mentioned, that is, the “protection level” of the instrument. Why this technical parameter has become a regular necessary parameter for transmitter selection is related to its importance.
In order to prevent the human body from touching or approaching the live part and the movable part inside the transmitter housing, to prevent solid foreign bodies from entering the inside of the transmitter housing, and to prevent the harm caused by water entering the inside of the transmitter housing, the transmitter housing is protected.
There are two main protection standards for industrial instruments in the world: one is the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard IEC60529, which is mainly used in Europe; The other is the NEMA (United States Electrical Manufacturers Association) standard NEMA ICSI-110, which is mainly used in the United States and North America. In the IEC standard, the protection level of the instrument refers to the different levels of dust and water resistance. In addition to dust and water protection, the NEMA standard also includes explosion protection. China’s national standard GB4208 “Enclosure Protection Grade” adopts IEC standards.
In the IEC standard and the national standard GB4208, the IP code is used to indicate the protection level of the shell, and the IP code is composed of the characteristic letter IP (International Protection), the first characteristic number (indicating dustproof), the second characteristic number (indicating waterproof, and replacing it with the letter X when the characteristic number is not required), additional letters (optional), and supplementary letters (optional).
The protection level of the transmitter’s housing is also strictly implemented in accordance with national standards. The laboratories that can carry out IP level tests mainly include the National Explosion-proof Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, the Environmental Reliability and Electromagnetic Compatibility Test Center, and the Aerospace Environmental Reliability Test and Testing Center.
