The reflection of the FDR frequency-domain soil moisture sensor is to measure the apparent permittivity (ε) of the soil according to the frequency of electromagnetic wave propagation in the medium using the principle of electromagnetic pulse, so as to obtain the soil volume water content (θv). Frequency-domain soil moisture sensor technology has two main advantages:
First of all, through the correct calculation of the insertion loss and frequency of the event, the frequency-domain soil moisture sensor can not only determine the open circuit and the touch point, but also determine more types of line obstacles, such as poor contact, bridge taps, etc.
Secondly, the frequency domain soil moisture sensor is tested in the frequency band matching the cable bearing service, while the time domain type is a DC DC measurement method, so the frequency domain soil moisture sensor is more suitable for broadband lines. FDR frequency domain soil moisture sensor also has the advantages of simple and safe, fast and accurate, fixed-point continuous, automated, less calibration, and cheap price.
Reflection from TDR time-domain soil moisture sensors is a common principle for rapid detection of soil moisture by reflecting waveforms on a mismatched transmission line. The waveform at any point on the transmission line is a superposition of the original waveform and the reflected waveform. The TDR principle soil moisture sensor has a response time of about 10-20 seconds, which is suitable for mobile measurement and fixed-point monitoring. But the equipment is more expensive.
